The system should be designed to operate without any instructions for use. If additional operational information is required, it should be integrated in the user interface, as common Help systems do.

Verification of the user's ability to follow the instructions should be by usability testing, rather than inspection. The usability tests should verify all usability aspects described in this guide.

Usability testing of the unexpected

 

Compliance with this guide should be by usability testing. The test shall examine the users' ability to perceive correctly the patient and the system situation. The scenarios used for the testing shall include:

  • Urgency variation, to test the response to high risks and medium risks, including the effect of typical and extreme delays
  • System failures, include sound failure, recovery from power failure, etc
